Huda Lutfi's

Dreams

“It’s all about the procession”, Lutfi describing her Dreams collection.

Stemming from her academic career as a historian, she frequently refers to her work as “cultural play or metamorphosis”. Huda obtained her PhD in Islamic culture and history, briefly lectured in Boston and Harvard University, and mostly worked as an Associate Professor at the American University in Cairo.

She started her artistic career in the early nineteen nineties. Her work is research-based, referencing the ritual and spiritual past of the Ancient Egyptian, Coptic and Arab cultures, distorting their original meaning and intentions, and rephrasing them into contemporary contexts. Her elaborate exploration with mixed media ranges from fragile and intricate to striking and evocative artworks that reflect and challenge human conditions in the modern days.
